Recent Changes In United Airlines Related To Thanksgiving Day You Need To Know About

If you thought the holiday season would melt the heart of airline giants, you’re in for a surprise. Gone are the days when airlines used to slash their airline ticket prices for Thanksgiving. This year all of the major carriers have increased their prices by 13% compared to last year. On average the cheapest ticket is around $325. Why do airlines do this? They factor in the cost and the demand for the flight. There have been recent changes in United Airlines related to Thanksgiving Day as well. Keep on reading to see how the changes might affect the airlines customers.

1. The New “Adjustments”

United Airlines has replaced the standard redemption program with their new “Everyday Awards”. The rates seem to fluctuate at the new elite limit, just like they do with Delta and AA. However, the airline still maintains an award chart, and still upholds the ode of transparency. All the changes have gone into effect from November 1, 20017.

2. Everyday Awards By United Airline

We’ll be starting with the good news, even though there has been a slight change to a few premium-cabin saver redemptions; the airline is not stirring things in the economy saver awards. The airlines popular one-way economy saver awards still cost 10,000 miles or 12,500. The 10,000 miles are for flights that are 700 miles or less, and 12,500 miles are for those flights that fly within the mainland US, Alaska and Canada. As mentioned earlier the standard level has now been replaced with “Everyday Awards”.

Everyday Award will only apply to flights that are being operated by United and United Express. The partner airlines will still be available to customers at the saver level. Since United Airlines has squeezed in Everyday Awards, they’ve increased the upper limit redemptions for almost all regions. The Everyday rates for United Airlines operated airline flights from the U.S will match the present standard levels for these destinations:

US, Canada, and Alaska- Business and First Class
Northern Africa- First class, business, and economy
North Asia- Business class and Economy

On the other hand, the upper limit will increase for flights within the US, so you can expect to redeem as many as 32,500 for the basic economy level. Be warned that the redemption level will fluctuate according to the demand, so you never know you can end up paying 15,000 miles for an Everyday Award. Since November 1, frequent flyers have been keeping an avid watch on how the program tends to fluctuate compared to the Standard Awards.

3. Changes To Premium Transcon

The airline has also launched a premium business class service from Boston to San Francisco, which joins the airlines already existing transom flights. Also, United Airline has revamped their first class cabins on several of their long haul flights to Hawaii. They have installed lie-flat beds on flights from Chicago, Houston, and Denver to destinations in Hawaii. Sadly, Elite members cannot get complimentary on these routes and starting from November 1, you’ll need more miles to redeem for business or first class.
