There is a lot of talk about the amazing improvements that are constantly taking place in first and business class. They are always building more comfortable seats, the service is on another level and the food is out of this world. It all sounds nice, but the reality is that a vast majority of travelers cannot afford to fly in these upper classes. Luckily, the airlines are working to improve economy classes to make them more comfortable for the masses. Check out how some airlines are improving the economy class flight experience.

Etihad Airlines Is Improving Their Economy Seating

Realizing the upcoming trend in improved economy seating, popular international airline Etihad has risen to the challenge with their Economy Smart Seat. This state of the art seat gives the same plush seat we’ve come to expect but adds a clever “fixed wing” headrest that is ergonomically designed to aid in neck support.

The entertainment options are also improved with a personal monitor that allows you to do everything from watch your favorite movies and television shows to giving you the option to order anything including food for the flight and other amazing online shopping capabilities. You are also supplied with amazing noise-reduction headphones and mobile access.

Behold The Mighty Skycouch

Never a slouch in the comfort department, Air New Zealand is also making big strides in economy class improvement. Their newest enhancement is the Skycouch. Perfect for long or overnight flights, the Skycouch gives economy travelers the chance to take an entire row for themselves as they lie down in what is being called “cuddle class”.

It works like this: A person or a couple may purchase the third seat in their row for half price. The couch aspect comes from the ability to retract armrests and raise footrests so it’s as if you are lying on a twin bed in the sky. Although this is a relatively new trend (currently available only in Asia), other airlines are jumping on the Skycouch train.

Qantas Airlines Joins The Economy Class Bandwagon

If there is one thing that the people over at Qantas Airlines know, it’s that travelers like to be comfortable during their flight, and hence, they have been improving their economy class flight experience as well. First and foremost, all economy flights, whether domestic or international provide personal viewing screens so you can shop or watch television in privacy. The entertainment centers contain more than 250 options, and if you need to work, the seats come equipped with PC power and USB ports.

Additionally, each passenger is given their own soft blanket and an amazing cotton pillow as they enjoy comfy seats with adjustable headrests and nice reclining capabilities. Dining in the economy has also improved with all passengers receiving complimentary beer and wine on international flights.
