1. Leaving Home Can Be Hard

There is a reason why they say home is where the heart is. Home is where your family is, and your friends are probably nearby. It’s where you feel comfortable and in your element. There is nervousness when you leave. Your emotions are all over the place, nervousness, and excitement battling each other for the top spot. There’ll be tears from your partner, your dad, your infant child and don’t forget to throw in a couple of emotional howls from your dad as well. You’ll feel selfish as you turn your back to all those teary-eyed loved ones, and you know you’ll miss them.

What makes it worth it: There is a whole world out there waiting to be discovered. When you step outside your comfort zone you’ll find the road to self-discovery. Just imagine the feeling of exhilaration of putrefying a shark, romancing with a foreigner or watched the sunrise on a tropical beach.

2. There Might Be Danger

Chances of hurting yourself are always there no matter where you are. You can easily hurt yourself when doing something mundane such as a DIY project at home. Yes, travel does expose us to many dangers that we wouldn’t encounter in our day to day life. You might get lost, have your bags stolen, get food poisoning after eating street food and later vow never to travel again.

What Makes It Worth it: Despite the dangers and the dramatic oaths were taken promising never to traveling again, frequent flyers can never let go of traveling. Why? Sometimes the dangers we face change our perception of the world and help us grow as individuals. By being exposed to other cultures and beliefs we evolve and realize that there is so much still to learn.

3. Annoying People

During our many travels we’re forced to come face to face with annoying people, and what makes it worse is that we might have to interact with them. It could be someone sitting next to you during a flight, or the person standing in front of you in a museum line and you have to tolerate them for some time. We have all come across such irritating people at least once during our travels.

Why makes it worth it: Well, for starters tolerance is a virtue. Think of it this way you’re forced to interact with annoying people regardless of where you are. The one that you find most annoying might work at your office, or hey, you might be married to him/her. With time the tolerance level grows stronger and you learn to deal with such people regardless of where you are. Also, such people make for an interesting story to tell back home.
