By: Mary Briscoe Categories: Airline Miles

Frequent Flyer Miles
Frequent flyer miles are an intense benefit for airline traveling. It allows the flyers to stack up free miles and other benefits; this often makes airline travel a little difficult due to longer check in lines and security checks. If you know how to properly use your frequent flyer miles you can easily save thousands of dollars on air ticket and can even get other benefits like seat up-gradation.

Travelers who fly frequently and are experienced know how to make the most out of their frequent flyer miles. I am a frequent traveler of Air Canada so I have many air Canada miles racked up which I recently consumed for getting my free ticket to Houston.

So travelers like me who are experienced have created some crafty yet effective tips on how to make the most out of the frequent flyer miles.

Be Wise

Many airlines have partnered with other companies which mean you can earn bonus miles if you use the service of partner companies. Credit cards are the best example to explain this – you can make purchases on airline tickets through your credit card or by using your card for shopping and earn extra miles. You can also earn miles by using phone companies or making a reservation at a partner hotel. If you keep on earning miles by using different other partner services your account will look active and your miles won’t expire.

Keep A Track

Keep A Track
You need to understand this that frequent flyer miles center on being used during a certain time period or you are granted with bonuses for a number of miles used in a year. You need to keep track of how many miles you have earned and which number grants you additional perks. IF you are close to a goal and the airline’s deadline is closing in, you can reschedule a trip or you can use the steps mentioned above to preserve the earned miles.

Reserve in Advance

Airlines have a very bad habit of changing the rules when the game starts to get interesting, teaching you where and when you can spend miles in ways that differ from the ones you understood when the program started. Secondly if you are planning to travel in the peak season then you better book beforehand as the peak flying periods fill up quickly and you might not be lucky to use those saved miles for a free trip. So it’s best that you make a booking in advance with the frequent flyer miles to avoid such events.

Get An Upgrade

A first class ticket to London definitely costs more than an economy class seat. So consider to paying a reduced airfare for the base tickets and get an upgrade for business or first class seat. An upgrade to a luxurious cabin will make your flying experience more pleasant which means you can easily travel in comfort on long flights without any difficulty.

With these simple and effective tips you can make the most out of your frequent flyer miles, like the way I do by using my air Canada miles for purchasing a free ticket.
