A Journey of Comforts: Cathay Pacific First Class, Hong Kong to New York

By: Mary Briscoe Categories: Destinations

cathay pacific first classCathay Pacific, the gateway to Asia is one of the world’s best airlines for a number of reasons. The services you come across both on-ground and onboard throughout all the travel classes are impeccable. Cathay Pacific first class defines tasteful luxury because every little comfort has been taken care of. The airline’s meals and entertainment are extremely friendly towards the younger ones and the flight timings are pretty punctual.

When you fly with Cathay Pacific, you can access all of their finest lounges worldwide. Known for its Asian hospitality, the food served inflight is nothing short of being the best and it’s truly a treat to fly with the airline for long haul flights.

Traveling around the world is far easier with Cathay Pacific because it is a member of the oneworld alliance. If you’re flying Hong Kong to New York with Cathay Pacific First Class, here’s a review that keeps your expectations real. It’s a long route and is the best chance to use your air miles to fly in luxury.

1. The Lounge Stay

I set my impressions about any airline right from the lounge. If in times like these an airline hasn’t focused enough on the lounge stay, it hasn’t achieved the perfection to land in the list of the top airlines in the world.

Lounge stay, especially before a long haul flight is extremely important. Cathay Pacific’s lounges are not as amazing as many others, but you’re guaranteed to have a comfortable stay at the Hong Kong airport. A wide array of food and drinks are available for the first class passengers, and everything reflects back to the perfection in Asian hospitality. However, it is important to bear in mind that lounges of the airline are just not that great in size and services elsewhere.

2. Cathay Pacific First Class Cabin

If there is one word to define the cabin, it would certainly be ‘tranquil’. Although at the time of boarding, you wouldn’t expect to see that inside the first class cabin. First class passengers enjoy a great level of comfort and privacy. There are no doors unless some latest first class designs. However, there’s no compromise even without them. Unless you’re making your way to the lavatory, you wouldn’t make eye contact with passengers.

Now getting to the favorite part of any flight, the seat. One word; wow! The seat is huge with two sections, the bigger one and a narrow part that you’re less likely to use. There’s plenty of light because every seat on the side covers three windows. I was completely carried away with the impressive size of the seat until I noticed it was equipped with everything else you would expect to make your journey a comfortable one. The touch-enabled display for seat control is a great addition and so is the entertainment system.

There is enough storage space (more than enough I’d say!) and the flatbed is one of my favorites in the skies! It’s comfortable, private and exclusive; just the way first class passengers would love.

The amenity kit has the Aesop products and maybe falls short of the first class standards. However, it has all the basics you would require. The pajamas are definitely of the make you would want to keep for a comfortable sleep!

3. The First Class Cuisine

A 15+ hour flight and compromising over food? Certainly not the way I like to fly. I’ve flown with Cathay Pacific a number of times, and the cuisine has never been a disappointment. Once I had examined the menu card, I decided to stick to Chinese cuisine. The crew knows how to make the passengers feel special about their journey. The food scores are high both on taste and presentations. What’s even more heart warming is the handwritten note by the crew.

The braised beef shin and marinated jellyfish are my absolute favorite. I’m a huge fan of Bannoffee Pie and the airline knew how to serve it in a delightful manner. Overall, I was pleased through and through with Cathay Pacific’s first class cuisine!

Flying from Hong Kong to New York with Cathay Pacific first class has been a pleasing experience. Of course, I couldn’t help myself from comparing it with other airlines, but there wasn’t a moment I could actually complain about something. The crew was great and the services were on point. As long as the airline doesn’t restrict its award flights, I would love to fly again!
